SCIENCE THROUGH STORIES: THE WAY AHEAD

We, humans live in an epoch where science and technology has become the reason for man’s advancement. From the ancient philosophers to the modern scientists, from Aristotle to Einstein, from geo centrism to general relativity, science has taken a giant leap. People who went in search of truth about our universe in ancient times are now revered as great scientists. Science is not the goal it’s the pursuit.

Edison, the great inventor, was expelled from his school for being ‘stupid’, while Einstein was late to talk and his peculiar behaviour of sitting still in a place for days sometimes when he was a child made his parents to conjecture that their son is mentally retarded. From these anecdotes, one must realize that these were also individuals with human weaknesses. The only difference with us is in their attitudes. Edison once said ‘if you find the solution to a problem 100th time, it’s not that you have failed in the other 99, but rather you have found 99 ways that won’t work’. When asked about his childhood, Einstein said, ‘I had always been fascinated by puzzles, when my parents bring them to me, my mind gets fully immersed in it that I forget about my surroundings until I finish them’. Persistence and passion are the keys in understanding science and this would automatically follow anyone driven by curiousity towards nature.

For anyone to get a better understanding of science, it is through stories which endorse imagination. No matter what age, almost everyone would love to hear stories if we change our approach. One should be able to initiate interest in the young with good story telling skills, while in case of adults we should make them aware of the significance of science in one’s life.
